Great read! Conner does a great job of describing the time period. I could see myself there. I am originally from Seattle and it was fun to picture how it must have looked during the Gold Rush era. Sam and Opal are likeable characters. I look forward to reading the next story in the series.
Rush of Love is book 1 of 2. It's a charming, upbeat story, short and sweet. Great reading while waiting at the doctor's office of for a bus. The story revolves around Samuel, the older of 2 brothers orphaned as teens, who are making a new life for themselves in Seattle, during the Klondike Gold Rush. Samuel and Opal are brought together by the rush for gold and held together by love.
Sam & Oral are a couple that meet during a harsh & ruthless time in our history. Yet, this author was make the very shot but sweet love story come alive out of what could have been a tragedy for both of them. They both had heart aches in their lives but when push came to shove were they willing to take a chance on each other in the end. Free so I was not bothered by the shortness of this story for the storyline had you right away.
Opal is a hardworking young woman who lost both her father to the gold rush and her mother (from a broken heart) soon thereafter. She does not want a man who will leave his family to chase his dreams. That's exactly who Samuel seems to be.
Samuel has hit it big and falls hard for Opal. After wooing her, she gives into her desires and agrees to a date. While they are out, Samuel is robbed and beaten. Opal must quit her job in order to nurse him back to health. She cares for him very much, but the lure of more gold is calling to him. What will the pair do when Samuel leaves to seek his fortune once again?
While this story is very short, it is very well done. There are twists and plenty of character growth. I am impressed by this author's breadth of work. Nice job.
As an avid historical romance reader, I can honestly say this story and `Fields of Gold' made it to the top of my favorite's list. Ms. Conner made a wonderful spin on the traditional western by writing about the Gold Rush. In `Rush of Love', Samuel Cooper has come down from the Klondike to cash in his gold. He meets Bank teller, Opal, he asks her to dinner and won't take no for an answer. When thugs attack the couple to steal Sam's money, Opal nurses him back to health and they find they were meant to be together. The only thing that keeps them apart is the call of the gold fields. Read the story yourself to find out if they can overcome their obstacles and find happiness with each other. A definate must read for all historical romance lovers.
This is my first review. I felt compelled to write. I enjoyed the storyline, the characters and the writing style. The author has talent. My only complaint is the bedroom scene. I was surprised when the main characters suddenly changed from high moral standards to having no moral standards. The real surprise was the explicit details of their premarital encounter. For me it ruined the book. This is not a book I would reccommend to anyone.
